What To Expect

A workshop dedicated to explore the methodology we established around the movement language of Threading, called ‘Threading Theatre Method’.

The workshop starts with foundational threading exploration for solo and partner research. Afterwards we tap into to theatricality of the language and visit realms like imagination, physical narratives and expression. At the end we conclude with a jam to playfully integrated all the elements we touched.

What Is Threading?

Threading is a movement concept where you create physical openings by connecting body parts together and moving through those openings with other parts of the body. The concept originates from Breaking but currently found its way into many different dance styles.

The concept has endless amount of possibilities. Especially when you add more bodies into the mix. The challenge within threading is finding the right collaboration between the mind and the body. Trusting the intelligence of the body while cultivating an awareness to distinguish between good choices and great choices.

Facilitated by

This workshop will be facilitated by Justin de Jager. His movement journey started as a breaker, where he discovered threading. For the last 7 years, he has been transforming the concept into a dance language that has the ability to communicate on its own and is not dependent from another dance style to be expressed within. Diving all the way to the source to express the essence.

The workshop will be co-facilitated together with committed members from the Threading Theatre Community. All motivated to hold the space as a whole and support the people that are new to the language.

For Whom

The workshop is accessible for anyone who feels the inner call to join and experience it. No entry level or specific dance training required. Just know that the practice is very physical. It will challenge you to surrender, to hold on, to play, to be sensitive and to simply go for it.

We will work a lot around the touch because you need physical contact to enter the realm of threading. Open communication, honesty and awareness are key factors to create a safe space. As facilitators and as a group we collectively keep one another responsible and carry the field together.
